PROVERBS 9

THERE ARE SOME WISE THINGS TO DO

(1) IT'S WISE TO BE IN CHURCH - V1

*the word HOUSE repesents the church

-----the church is the people

-----people are supposed to gather together - Hebrews 10:25

a.) Jesus (wsidom) built it - Matthew 16:18

-Jesus leads the church and is the head of the church

b.) the church is a big house with many different kinds of vessels in it - 2 Timothy 2:20

c.) the church has 7 main pillars to follow:

salvation

baptism in water and the Holy Spirit

Bible doctrine

fellowship

prayer

praise

outreach

(2) IT'S VERY WISE TO EAT OR YOU'LL STARVE TO DEATH - vs2-6,10-12

***Matthew 5:6

***these verses are a picture of a beautiful banquet table with great food and ornate trimmings

vs2-3 - the Lord is inviting everyone to come and eat

Two Reasons:

1. To Know Jesus Personally - SALVATION - vs4-6 - Follow Me

Matthew 4:19 - "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men"

-this is an invitation from God and people - v3

2. To Know Jesus More - DISCIPLESHIP - Follow Me

-this is hanging out with Jesus and Jesus hanging out with you - It is called HOVERING.......

hover - means to be near or close to someone;to move around; the result is bringing light into darkness

EX:  Genesis 1:1-3 - God hovered around creation and brought light to darkness

-we are saved and hovering around Jesus Christ.  2 Things Happen: 

1. WE CHANGE  the more you hang out with Jesus the more you change

2. OTHERS CHANGE - Jesus is on the move.  Hovering around Jesus means you are hovering around others who need help

(3) IT'S WISE TO EMBRACE CORRECTION - vs7-10, 12

vs7,8a - do not argue, correct or rebuke someone who will not listen and knows everything.  It will only get worse as you go.

v12 - the scoffer will suffer here on earth and eternally

vs8b-9 - the wiser people are, the more they appreciate being corrected, coached and helped.......

(4) IT IS WISE TO FOLLOW BIBLICAL MORALITY - vs13-18

v13 - looks on the outside are not an indication what is on the inside

v17 - water is water even if it is stolen

       -I am not hurting anyone.  It's in secret...

v18 - the end result

We are living in a postmodern society.  It sceams at us two things:

     1. what anyone does or believes is right - so sin is out

v17 - stealing is sweet

     2. Morality is a choice -

v17 - there is nothing wrong with me having a sexual realtionship with anybody.  I think it is right so it is right...

***Follow Biblical Morality - we do have a moral code to follow and it is God's holy word...............
