The Holy Spirit in Genesis

 

1.) Genesis 1:1 - The Holy Spirit has always been

-Psalm 104:30/Job 33:4 - Elohim - plural showing the trinity

 

-created - means to make something out of nothing

                    a.) the Holy Spirit can make something out of nothing

 

-what the Holy Spirit creates is very good - Genesis 1:31

 

 

2.) Genesis 1:1-2 - the Holy Spirit is not bothered by chaos

 

v2 - without form and void - means to be empty;waste;chaotic;confusion;tragic

                    a.) things became this way

 

 

2 things to note:

 

                     (1) Can God trust us with a tough situation?

 

                     (2) Chaotic times give the Holy Spirit a chance to reveal His power

 

-God's power is not intimidated by your circumstances-

 

 

 

 

3.) The Holy Spirit Moves - Genesis 1:2

 

hovering - means activity; continuous movement

                         a.) it speaks of a picture of a woman giving birth

 

                         b.) giving birth to life

 

 

                  1.  the Holy Spirit is on the move and great things are happening in the world -

                                       -He is not stationary

                                       -nothing can stop Him

 

 

 

                    2. the Holy Spirit is always moving

                                  -recognize it

                                  -expect it

                                  -react to it

 

 

 

4.) Genesis 6:1-8 - the Holy Spirit is Patient

 

strive - means to plead His cause

 

                     a.) the Holy Spirit will give you over to your own ways/you can shut the door on Him/judgment comes

 

                     b.) God is patient - He waits and waits on people to be saved and serve Him

 

 

 

 

 

5.) Genesis 41:38 - The Holy Spirit can rest on someone

 

OT - rest upon a person                                  NT - dwell inside of a person -------------------------John 14:16-17

 

 

God rests upon the are nots of the world.....................1 Cor 1:26-29
