Symbols of the Holy Spirit

Water – John 7:37-39’

Receive the Holy Spirit

Be filled with the Holy Spirit

The anointing of the Holy Spirit

The baptism of the Holy Spirit

a.)   water quenches your thirst – from wanting more – John 4:6-14

-one’s ability to experience happiness is not directly associated with acquiring more – Psalm 144:5

-we are called to contentment

-more of Jesus Christ is our goal – Philippians 3:10

b.)   water that sits grows stagnant

c.)   –God created water to flow and move – this brings life

Fire – Acts 2:1-3

John 14:15-21 – the paracletos – one called alongside to help

a.)   fire comforts and warms

b.)   fire gives light

-enables you to see yourself – 1 Cor 11:28 & Matt 7:1-5

-enables you to see beyond yourself – Matt 28:19-20 – the Great Commission

c.)   fire produces excitement – Isaiah 59:17

-which results in attraction

-which results in zeal – zeal is the fire of God burning in your spirit to the extent that it can be seen on your countenance

EX:  a zeal to be in God’s house – Jn 2:13-17
