1 Corinthians 14:18-40
v18 - Paul spoke in tongues a lot
*tongues are not from the devil - Acts
2:11
*Matthew 3:1-11 - Jesus baptizes people with the
Holy Spirit
v19 - this verse speaks about order in the church
services
-if there is a public tongues, there also must be
an interpretation of those tongues
v20 - Paul says that Christians must grow up when
it comes to speaking in tongues
*be a child when it comes to sin though - push it
away and don't go near it
v21 - this is from Isaiah 28:11-12
-you must open your heart to receive anything from
the Lord
vs22-25 - the spirituals draw people to Christ when
done decently and in order
tongues + interpretation of tongues =
prophecy
v26 - many gifts and testimonies can be shared in a
church service. Just let it all be done in order
v27 - the use of the 9 spirituals is limited by
Paul and the Lord
-this verse is speaking of public
tongues
-people must speak one at a time
v28 - public tongues always needs an
interpretation
- private tongues must be kept to yourself
and God only knows what you are saying
v29 - the gift of prophecy is limited in its use in
a church service
judge - means to discern;decide;assess; weigh
carefully and then comment (1 John 4:1-3)
***analyze the person;s fruit and
words
vs30 - 31 - one gift is to operate at a
time
v32 - each person is in control of what they are
doing and saying
v33 - Satan and demonic forces confuse. God brings
PEACE!!!
vs34-35 - Paul is speaking about order here in
context
***there were some women in the church who were out
of order in the church services
v36 - we can't write our own rules or follow our
own principles
v37 - God's word superceeds any of our own
thoughts, ideas, gifts or titles
v38 - if any person does not recognize what Paul is
saying, then they will not be recognized
v39 - 2 Statements:
(1) covet to prophecy - means to desire enviously;
to really desire or want soemthing
(2) forbid not - means not to restrain or hold
back; go after tongues
v40 - let everything fit together; be proper; have
proper manners
