Ephesians 5:1-14
 
1.) Every Christian Mom wants their children to have a hero - Ephesians 5:1-2
 
verse 1 - Imitate - means to mimic; be like someone; to follow a pattern or example
-----this makes God be seen/gives God some much needed visibility
 
2 Things about God
            a.) He loves us - dear children - this refers to all born again believers and speaks of God's great love for them
 
            b.) He gave Himself for us - Jesus took our place on the cross - He became our substitute
 
 
2.) Every mom wants their children to behave properly - vs3-6
-do not imitate the unbelieving culture
 
v3 - fornication - is sexual immorality ( speaks of singles)
-this is sex outside of marriage
 
      impurity - all other kinds of sexual sins
 
      greediness - the desire to have more
 
names - means to mention/profess/not even give a hint of this
 
saints - means set apart ones/distinct/mark them
 
 
v4 - our speech
 
filthiness - anything obscene or indecent
 
foolish talk and jesting - means to able to turn easily
a.) it is turning comments into suggestive and sexual comments
 
not fitting - means out of place/not up to God's standard
 
be thankful - means grateful/to express gratitude
 
 
 
vs5-6 - this is someone who deliberately and intentionally and continually lives and walks in sin
a.) they will not go to heaven
 
b.) know - means to be sure/to be totally convinced
 
c.) excuses are given - let no one - let not one person
 
d.) God's judgment will come down
 
 
 
 
3.) Every mom wants their children to keep the lights on  - vs7-14
 
v7 - watch who you hang out with
 
partakers - means partners/co-participants
-do not be involved with their lifestyle
 
Be - means to become
-stay close to the Lord
 
do not - please stop
 
 
v8 - we used to do these things when we were unbelievers, but now we are saved and light
 
light - means to shine
 
 
v9 - fruit is a product of receiving light
 
 
v10 - being light and living in the light please God
 
vs11-13 - light exposes darkness
 
 
 
4.) Every mom wanst their children to get up and be productive - v14
 
awake - this speaks of the believer who needs to be saved and receive light
 
awake - this can speak to the believer who is away from the Lord
