Ephesians 6:10-17 (v15)Shoes Of Peace

The Roman soldier had a special kind of shoe:

-made of thick leather

-had cleats (knobs) on the bottom

-tightly strapped on to the leg and foot

 

What do these shoes represent?

 

(1) STANDING - Ephesians 6:11,13,14

 

a.) standing against the devil

 

             1. the enemy is already defeated at the cross - 1 Timothy 6:12

 

              2. the enemy can still pressure, but we can stand against him at all times

                                   -use our authority in Christ

                                   -use the word of God

 

2 ways the enemy pressures us:

 

                                                         1. he tells us that some sins are beyond forgiveness

                                                                              -because of their largeness

                                                                              -because they are repetitive

 

                                                          2. he tells us one thing to get us to sin and then another to overwhelm us in despair

 

 

 

b.) standing on the word of God and for the word of God

-which is a gospel of Peace

 

-gospel - means good news

 

-peace - means to join yourself together which results in quiet, calmness and rest

 

***********Peace with God

***********Peace with yourself

***********Peace with others

***********Peace that we know we have victory over the enemy at all times

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.) CERTANTY - 1 John 5:13-15

 

-nothing is certain today and nothing can be counted on except Jesus Christ and His word

 

-1 John 5:13-15; 1 John 3:5; 1 John 3:16; ` John 2:18

 

 

 

 

3.) BALANCE - Titus 2:1 & Titus 1:9,13

 

sound - means healthy; solid;balanced; good

 

 

a.) Biblical principles are not weird

-it is all true

 

b.) what you do at church should be able to be done anywhere

 

c.) keep balanced in doctrine

 

d.) be open to the supernatural

-Christianity is supernatural

 

 

 

 

4.) SLIPPING - 1 John 2:1-2

 

-the Roman soldire did not slip too much because of the grip of their shoes

 

-we as believer should not slip (sin) too much but should sin less and less and less as we grow spiritually

 

 

v1 - little children - means all believers and is an affectionate, loving term showing God's love toward people

 

 

don;t sin - John was telling the reader that he did not want them to sin one time

 

 

"IF" we do sin - this is not speaking of habitual sin, but infrequent sins

 

 

advocate - means one called alongside to help; a supporter; a comforter

 

with the Father - means facing the Father

 

 

propitiation - means Jesus is the only person who satisfies the requirements of God concerning salvation and forgiveness

 

-guilt is removed

 

-fellowship is restored
