The Anointing of the Holy Spirit

1.) the definition of the anointing - it means to contact, smear, paint or rub with oil

2.) What is the anointing of the Holy Spirit ?  Acts 10:38

-it is the presence of the Lord upon a person

a.) the presence of the Lord is everywhere - omnipresence - Psalm 139:7-10

-recognize it

-respond to it

-it does not eliminate adversity, but helps you through it

b.) benefits of His presence

-fullness of joy - Psalm 16:11

-people are drawn to Jesus - Mark 2:1-2

c.) eternal presence - Jude 24-25

3.) The Personal, Corporate and Practical Anointing of the Holy Spirit -

Personal - John 14:17 & 1 John 2:20,27

-the anointing allows you to know right from wrong, receive conviction, gives us discernment between right & wrong doctrine

-2 Cor 11:3-4/1 John 4:1-3/2 Timothy 4:3-4

Practical - Luke 4:18/Isaiah 61:1

-the anointing of the Holy Spirit is for service

a.) for the Lord to do something

b.) for the believer to do something

Corporate - Acts 1:9-15/Acts 2:1-4/2 Chronicles 5:13-14

What ingredients are necessary for a Corporate anointing to manifest?

1.) a spirit of praise and worship - 2 Chronicles 5

ALL - the priests praised Him

-they were heard

-go for a swim.............

2.) Prayer - Acts 1:14

-they had a place to pray

3.) Oneness - 2 Chronicles 5:13 & Acts 2:1

-one mind, heart, passion,hope, call, purpsoe

4.) expectation - Acts 1:4-5,13

-live in a state of expectation....................

4.) The anointing of the Holy Spirit can rest upon an imperfect vessel - Judges 14:5-6

-the anointing will eventually lift off of the human vessel, but God's word is anointed

5.) The anointing of the Holy Spirit is not the baptism of the holy Spirit - Acts 10:44-48/Acts 19:1-7/Acts 1:8

-the anointing is for service

-the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for power and greater ability
